I'm thinking about buying a late 60s Fender Bassman Head.
I know there are huge gear dorks on here, would any of them know much about these or have a website that discusses the differences of models, Pros & Cons?( Silver or Black, 50 or100watt, etc. .)

I'd be running it through a standard 4 x12 Marshall Slant Cabinet.
Do these sound alright with a bass? It seems no one actually does that.

I'm also looking for a decent partial hollow body that won't run me a huge debt. Any suggestions?

jeff says he knows them inside and out. they were origionally designed as a bass amp, but they really dont have the power to keep up, that is why more guitar players use them. he said not to use it as a bass amp unless you aren't going to be playing too loud. He said Marshall GTM45 was designed as a Fender clone.(if that means anything to you) if you were a guitar player he would recommend the amp, he said its a "fucking awesome guitar head"

not enough power for bass though. look for something for bass in the 200 watts plus range. Also, look for a cabinet that is fullrange, something with a horn. it will sound a lot better. go to underdog and check out the mark bass amps, small, light, and lots of power.

if you want to know more just ask.

also, we have a much cheaper dingwall model coming out in the next couple of months. it would look good on you.

Post edited by: devon, at: 2008/01/22 22:35

Thanks Devon.
I'm certain I have the bass I want to play for life but i see you're starting to make some sort of Telecaster like electric guitar. That seems worth trying out.

I fail to see how that Marshall is worth paying 2 grand for, I think I only like certain JCM's. Maybe I'll just sell a kidney for an Orange.

I have one of these, but it's so insanely old and sounds deadly.
Its a combo amp that my step-dad actually used for playing a guitar through back in the 70's. He played a Fury fireball through it.
I have played bass through it a couple times, and have jammed with people who know how to play well through it, and it sounds awsome. I'm not quite sure what a distorted bass would sound like through it though.

Mine looks like so

If you have the right bass to back it up, it's an awsome amp.
